You Are Stronger Than You Know

By Daniel Garner

"I have told you all of this so that you may have peace in me. Here on Earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world" - John 16: 33

"Good, better, best. Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best" - Saint Jerome

At some point in time or another, we all have had a bit of depression.

It happens. We’re human, it’s just natural. We usually work and pray it out, then move on. No problem. A lot of that depression in people’s lives comes whenever the reality of their situation doesn't meet their expectations.

A lot of people gripe and complain. A lot give up. A lot decide to find comfort in sex, drugs, alcohol or a lot of other means.

That's when bad mistakes happen.

And then, after those bad mistakes, some stay in the hole that they've dug. Become even more depressed. Turn to those same things and others even more.

Rinse and repeat.

Actions can't be undone. Those things happen and there is consequences. But you know what can change? Hearts. How we move on after a bad mistake can change the course of our whole life.

A lot of times we get scared whenever we realize something needs to change, though. Sometimes, even when people know that they have a problem they don’t feel that they are strong enough to do much about it. But that's okay, because that fear is a great indicator that you're going in the right direction.

If you’re afraid because of a positive change that you don’t know you can make, its okay. But at some point, you have to follow that fear. Follow that truth. Whenever you do, truth will always tell you what to do. And don't let fear deter you. Keep going, climb out of that hole and start building a tower.

The thing about mistakes is that they happen regardless of who you are. We're human. We mess up. It's just what we do.

The ability to not only forgive others but you yourself is what sets apart those who fall and break their legs and continue to crawl, opposed to those who wallow, crawled into themselves in a fetal position that defines their life.

Don't let this be you.

Because it doesn’t have to be!

John 16: 33 says: "I have told you all of this so that you may have peace in me. Here on Earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world".

You don't have to stay broken. You don't have to stay defeated. You are not your flaws. There is always hope, and it's not on some distant shore. We as humans have a great affinity for selling ourselves short.

The Takeaway: Always remember: You are not the culmination of your sins and less than the sum of your vices!
