Allowing Time for God

By Shailyn Arthurs

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose" - Romans 8: 26-28 (NIV)

As a full-time college student and a part-time retail employee, there is not a day that I don't wish for more time. That is; more time to sleep, relax, do homework, etc. However, I find myself adding devoted prayer time and alone time with God at the very bottom of the list. If you ask me why, I would answer in such a way that every other 21st century young adult would: "I get caught up in the day-to-day routine." Frankly, I do not know a routine that is more important than one with God.

Romans 8: 27 states, "And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God." With the constant nine to five grind, I want people to be the most intimate that they have ever been with God, even with a busy routine. I want your routine broken for His will.

Know that everything that makes your life great is in your control and you have an equal standing faith.

Even when we are in our busiest of days, the Spirit of God is interceding for us, "...Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." We are limited, but there is no reason we are limited in prayer. In time of distress, when we do not know what to pray for, His spirit prays for us!

2 Peter 1: 5-6 says: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness, and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love."

Do not waste your life, your time.

God says start with yourself, be the most intimate with Jesus; because there is nothing in this world that is stopping you. We need to be so nearsighted that we are blind, but blind by Jesus. Let's stop looking at the things that we can easily see in this world, because that is temporary. Instead, we must look inward to the things that are unseen. The unseen is where we are able to find God's will. You can ask, but you have to make every effort, every ounce.

We easily lose grip at the ability we have to pray. God has the ability to know what we need and want, but instead He allows us to humble ourselves in prayer and ask Him for things and share with Him our struggles. Rejoice in this: God's divine power has given us everything as it pertains to life and Godly standings!
